Statler and Waldorf...A pair of Muppets...
They are two ornery, disagreeable old men. They find themselves vastly entertaining and inevitably burst into mutual laughter at their own witticisms.
Despite constantly complaining about the 'players, weather, opposition, captain, toss, bowlers, batsmen, fielders, supporters, tea's, lack of beer, crap beer, warm beer' and how terrible 'the rest of the team' were, they would always be back the following 'Sunday' in the best 'fielding positions' in the 'game'.
As to why, the original version of The Muppet Show theme song had Statler admitting, "I guess we'll never know."
