Chairmans XI v Saracens Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 09 Jun 2013 at 11.30am
Saracens Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets
On a fine day at St Margaretsbury Saracens took on a Chairman’s XI Saracens Legends team including players from as far away as Philadelphia & Liverpool! The format was 2 20/20 innings each with lunch, tea and a BBQ supplied by the lovely Saracen Ladies, Ben Wallis and Dinghy. Although the weather was overcast the supporters were in fine voice and the bar was open all day!
With Bun leading the Saracens the toss was negotiated Saturday night and the Chairman’s XI batted first. Legends James ‘Sammy’ Parker (51ret) and Paul ‘Blighter’ Hewitt (41) profited on a belter of a batting track setting a first innings score of 132 after their 20 overs. Special mention to Dave Owen who managed 2 LBW’s in 2 innings facing just 3 balls!
In response Saracens started well losing Butch for a golden in the first over before Fanny (51ret) and Randy (51ret) set about the Legends bowling attack with gusto. Both had some luck (Fanny dropped 3 times) but they put on nearly 90 in 14 overs allowing the lower order (apart from Squibby getting bowled by a massive no ball) to have some fun before posting a small lead on 150 at close.
The Legends came out in strong form with Neil ‘Bungle’ Cody (30) driving a hard ball all over the place until the secret weapon of the Saracens Luke ‘Orgasm’ Wafford came on eventually ripping out the middle order with 4 for 37 for his 4 overs. Legends lower order including the Chairman Dinghy (caught by Helmet) and Tricky (Stumped by Slogger) all chipped in and set a good target of 277 to win the game.
Saracens were in a confident mood and opening pair Babs & Flipper got us off to a solid start followed by Bun, Orgasm and Shane leaving the lower order with 88 to win from 8 overs. Slogger (51 ret) started dispatching the ball to all parts and was severe on a Allen ‘Mavis’ Nicholson over, Squibby managed to pull a muscle (controversially) and had to retire making way for Fanny. With 11 needed off the last over the pressure was on, fortunately Tricky dropped the ball and allowed a scampered 2 with 1 run to win of the last ball, fanny dispatched it for 4 rousing great cheers from Bun.
Saracens win. Great day had by all.
