Saracens Cricket Club

Nazeing Common v Saracens Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 29 Sep 2013 at 1pm
Saracens Cricket Club Won by 34 Runs

Match report We arrived at Nazeing for our last UK fixture of the 2013 season and were greeted with a pleasant sunny and warm Sunday afternoon after the previous two weeks cancellations. Two late drop outs meant that skipper Fanny had to draft in Dan Loriot for his Saracens debut and a.n. other made up our 11 (which meant that we would take the field with 10).

We batted first on what can only be described as a flat & lifeless pitch, Fanny & Tony opened up and we were 34 - 0 after 7 overs, with Fanny being particularly dismissive on anything loose whilst Tony was solid at the other end. The fall of the first wicket at 35 bought slogger to the crease, who together with Fanny went on to put on 110 in 12 overs before Matt (Fanny) was dismissed for 84.

Slogger continued on to a fluent run a ball 65 not out, ably supported by a dashing 20 from Damo and an even more destructive 11 not out from Bun (1 x 4 and 1 x 6) batting at 5, and yes he still hasn't been dismissed in 2013. This took us on to 197 - 3 after 30 overs and the skipper decided enough was enough and it was time for tea.

After a rather large and pleasant tea, Saracens took to the field in search of the 10 Nazeing wickets to win and finish the UK season on a high.
Wrong’un and Dan bowled tightly early on, Dan picking up 2 wickets in 2 balls and Wrong’un picked up a well deserve scalp in his final over, having their opener caught behind by slogger.

Bun was introduced at the pavilion end and Charlie at the field end, both bowled well , however on a lifeless pitch, Nazeing’s 4th wicket pair of Morely and Bevan were able to tick the runs over during at period of 20 overs were no wicket s fell and the score moved on to 135 - 3. Bun then removed Bevan for 51 and from that point, the lifeless pitch suddenly woke up.

Fanny introduced himself from the field end and began to find some movement both ways and Bun suddenly found some turn and bounce. He bowled their number 6, 7 & 9 with a masterful display of off-spin bowling on a now turning pitch and had their number 8 sharply caught at slip by fanny.

Suddenly the game had changed, Nazeing were now 150 – 8 with 10 overs to go. Fanny then bowled their number 10 and with the score on 163, Bun cleaned up their number 11 to finish with 6-36 from 17 overs and Nazeing were all out for 163.

W award = Rich Gough, Pulled out at 10.10am on the morning, the consensus was that it was within a sufficient time frame to still count.
