Saracens Cricket Club

Watton-at-Stone v Saracens Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 27 Jul 2014 at 2.00pm
Saracens Cricket Club Won by 3 Wickets

Match report On a hot sunny afternoon, we arrived at Watton well in time for once. We squeezed all the cars into the car park, threw all the valuables at our lone supporter for the day, Manda, and then took the field, after we lost the toss and watton chose to bat on what looked a very quick scoring ground.

The returning TP took the new ball with Woody, and after TP had bowled 3 flat ones in the first over, both settled in and produced a great spell of new ball bowling. TP swinging it late and Woody finding a length and a bit of shape that was causing all sorts of problems, not surprisingly Watton were 44-4 after 16 overs.

Randy and Fud replaced TP and Woody and again settled in - Randy particularly impressive in his first bowl of the year and the Improving Fud picked up 2 wickets in his first 4 overs. Bun then picked up another and Watton were 77-7 after 23 overs.

An 8th wicket partnership of 125 followed before Randy picked up a wicket with the final ball of the innings as watton finished on 202-8. A good effort in the field from us as we restricted them well at the end.

Slogger and Randy opened up and runs were flowing from the first ball and we reached 50-0 after 11 overs and once Randy got going, runs flowed from both ends and we reached 102-0 after 19 overs.

Randy then fell for 28 just before drinks, after which Slogger and Slow Mo moved the score on to 157-1 after 27 overs before Slogger was well caught at square leg for 91.

With 45 to win from 78 balls, we looked to be storming to victory. However, with 23 to win Slow Mo was bowled for 35. This was followed by 4 quiet overs, only 12 runs scored and then Luke, Jim and Pete all fell in quick time.

Woody then hit 10 runs from 2 balls and was bowled, leaving us with 2 to win from the last over. After 2 dot balls TP ran a bye to the keeper and then whipped the next ball over mid wicket for 4 to record a good victory with 2 balls to spare.

A good game, great chase and fantastic pub to go to afterwards. 4 wins in a row and 5 in our last 6. On to Flamstead next week.

W Award = TP (Bowled a Flat one 1st ball of the game, Then bowled very well, Hit the winning runs with ease, Didn't Shower and left without having a drink)
