Saracens Cricket Club

Hertford 2nd XI v Saracens Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 07 Jun 2015 at 2.00pm
Saracens Cricket Club Won By 2 wickets

Match report On a warm sunny day, Saracens were at Hertford. Ben pulled out on Saturday so Jon was in and Tricky was captain. Tricky and Eric walked to the middle and on a very flat pitch and the toss was made. Eric won and Saracens were in the field with 9 men as Charlie was heading towards Luton and Jim was broken down waiting for the AA.

Woody and Bun opened up, both bowled well with Woody getting a couple to move off the pitch, and Bun finding some good bowling form. Randy came on to bowl after Woody had bowled 8 overs, Randy bowled well but after four overs the Hertford openers started to take advantage of him. It was a wicket for the slower bowlers! Dinghy started his spell at the top end and Charlie at the bottom. Drinks were taken and Hertford were 60 odd for 0 after 24 overs or so. After drinks wickets started to fall regularly from both ends and with the Saracens fielders backing up the bowlers, Charlie went on to pick up his maiden 5 wicket haul! And Dinghy picked up a very good 5 wickets too. Hertford 158 all out, a very good performance in the field.

After a very good tea it was Saracens turn to chase down a under par total.

Tricky and Jim opened for the Saracens, Jim (2) played around a straight one and Tricky (7) nicked a short wide one to the keeper. A good start! Helmet and Jon were at the crease both playing there shots and scoring freely. Helmet (16) playing around a straight one was bowled. With Randy walking to the crease we had plenty to do, putting on 36 Jon and Randy were playing freely until Randy was bowled for a well made 21 mainly in boundaries. Vinnie joined Jon and the pair put on 33 until Vinnie (9) was bowled. Saracens 105-5. Woody joined Jon and with the field back runs were coming nicely, until just 2 run short of a Saracens maiden 50, Jon was bowled, squeaky bum time. This was Chris's time to shine, unfortunately Chris was out for 0. Dinghy joined Woody and in the penultimate over was given LBW for 3. With just 4 needed to win from 7 deliveries Charlie had 1 ball to block out, and then it was down to Woody. First ball of the final over Woody creamed one through covers and the game was won! Woody finishing on 35no and Charlie 0no.
A very good win for the Sarries!
